Mustangs Soccer, Spring 2014

We have played on the same soccer team since the boys were 4.  I think the neatest thing is 5 of the boys have been playing together since the beginning.  So fun!  Anyway, this season we opted not to do the league sponsored pictures.  One of the moms owns a fancy camera and I think she did a great job.

Here is the whole team, minus Chase.

Some action shots from the game.  It actually was a great game for Hagen and Mason – Hagen scored one goal and Mason scored 2!

Hagen’s Game Ball

Hagen gets praised all the time in soccer.  He has a ‘big’ foot and can kick the ball all the way down the field.

Baseball, well, that’s another story.  One problem is he doesn’t exactly like attention all on him and I think it is a little intimidating – I don’t blame him!

Anyway, he does great with Jeremy one-on-one.  But games are a different story.

He ended up having a great game and even got on base (huge for Hagen).  Each game Coach Shane gives out the game ball to the player that showed great sportsmanship and tried really hard during the game.  So, Hagen got the game ball and he was SO HAPPY!  Loved it!!!

With Coach Shane.  We had him last spring and love his coaching style.  His son, Cade is similar to Hagen and they are good friends (they were in kinder together).  Coach Shane is so patient and such a great coach.

Privacy and Updating!... oh and a Thank you to YOU!

I’m still planning to continue the blog.  I like it for a scrapbook for the boys.  Because of them being in public school, I discovered a dilemma.  I want to post pictures of them at school, with their teacher, and with their friends…. but I’m worried that I might be putting a child’s picture on the internet without that parent’s permission.  So, the blog is now officially private.
Thank you for allowing me to go private and still keep up with us.  I know it is an extra step to have to log in.... but hopefully it isn't a huge inconvenience.
I am updating.  I like to date it on the actual date or close to the actual date that the picture(s) was taken, so you will have to scroll back to see my updating as I get caught back up.
Thanks for sticking around.

Hagen’s Nephrology Checkup

I cringe when I see parents out to each with kids or even just the two adults together and they are on their phone.  We are not becoming a society detached from face-to-face communication – we ARE a society obsessed with phones.  But, I refuse to be that family.  We keep phones away during meal times and I may have a miserable meal trying to keep my children ‘entertained’ through a meal at a restaurant, but I REFUSE to let my children play on phones or I Pads!

Okay, so about Hagen’s Nephrology visit and how that relates to phones and I Pads.  So, we are not THAT family that relies on the IPad babysitter – but the one luxury they are allowed is to use them at doctor’s offices.  Can I tell you how amazing it is to use them during this time.

When I have to fill out paperwork, pay co-pays, the endless waiting, and when I want to hear what the doctor is telling me…. they are entertained!  Love it!

I am not ashamed to say, keep the I Pads away during meals, but get those suckers out in the waiting rooms.  Perfect!

Oh yea, and this kid Winking smile  He is doing great!  Blood pressure, urine, blood test, all came back a ’okay.  He will have an ultra sound and blood work again in 6 months.  Dr. Pena said he will more than likely stay on the medicine he is on now for life.  He said it is a kidney protector, which is very good for someone like Hagen that just has one kidney.  We want to take good care of the one he has.

"How Preemie Moms Are Chosen" by Erma Bombeck

Did you ever wonder how the mothers of premature babies are chosen?
Somehow, I visualize God hovering Earth, selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation. As he observes, he instructs his angels to take notes in a giant ledger. "Armstrong, Beth, son. Patron Saint...give her Gerard. He's used to profanity." Finally, he passes a name to an angel and smiles.
"Give her a preemie."
The angel is curious. "Why this one God? She's so happy."
"Exactly," smiles God. "Could I give a premature baby a mother who knows no laughter? That would be cruel."
"But does she have the patience?" asks the angel.
"I don't want her to have too much patience, or she'll drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she'll handle it. I watched her today. She has that sense of self and independence so rare and so necessary in a mother. You see, the child I am going to give her has a world of it's own. She has to make it live in her world, and that's not going to be easy."
God smiles. "This one is perfect. She has just the right amount of selfishness. "
The angel gasps, "Selfishness! Is that a virtue?"
God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she will never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't know it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take for granted a spoken word. She will never consider a step ordinary. When her child says momma for the first time, she will be witness to a miracle and know it. I will permit her to see cleary the things that I see - ignorance, cruelty, prejudice - and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side."
"But what about her Patron Saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in the air.
God smiles.
"A mirror will suffice."
