Making a Gingerbread House with Aunt Erin
We saved the Christmas cookies and Gingerbread house for Aunt Erin to help us. Here are the boys helping Aunt Erin and Grampa build the house.
Notice Hagen's black eye (a run-in with the dresser).
The boys were so excited to decorate they had a hard time waiting the full 15 minutes for the icing to dry on the house... they started decorating.
'Look Aunt Erin, I'm doing a great job decorating!'
Aunt Erin helping Mason create a structurally sound decorated gingerbread house.
Uh oh, looks like we should have waiting the full 15 minutes :-O
Tractors
When Grammy and Grampa came, they brought two tractors with them. John Deere tractors that is.
The boys were so cute, walking out of their room to see the tractors. I think they were kind of confused at first. Once they caught on, Hagen cracked us up - he would just look up at each one of us and just start grinning from ear to ear. He did this the WHOLE time he rode on that tractor!
Mason testing it out. He was a little more reserved in wanting to drive it. I think he preferred just sitting on it.
Hagen couldn't have been happier.

More Christmas
I am really behind on blogging because of all the celebrating of Christmas we have been doing. We also started potty training today and I ran out of patience that caused me to run out of perseverance. I am praying I get more of both of those by tomorrow morning. The only thing that makes me think I might possibly try again tomorrow is thinking about all of us that are potty trained, so it is possible - right??
My family's Christmas celebration:
My family's Christmas celebration:
Here are Gran and Mason celebrating with food.
If you follow my blog, you know that last year Santa visited, this year... it was an Elf. (forgot what her name was?) Notice, who is up front to greet the elf?!
And also notice, who has the Elf's hand and isn't letting go the entire song of Hokey Pokey... did not let go! Hello ~ cracking me up!
All the great-grans with the Elf.
Group picture time - all the great-grands. (the boys did really well considering we weren't up there with them)

Grand kids with spouses.
Gran catching a runaway (Hagen)
Mamaw with her children (and spouses).

After all the extended family left, we hung around with Paucci, Gran and all the other grand kids. Megan (Trish's daughter stayed to play with Ruby).

Paucci and Conner played checkers (Hagen helping)
Ruby and Megan teaching Mason how to play Lady Bug.

Then the girls decided to 'teach' the boys - so cute :-) (Couldn't believe how cooperative they were!)
We also had an angel (Lily) and an Indian (Conner) make appearances.

We made omelets in a bag - lots of fun and then I discovered our presents were still at the house - opps!! So we all killed time waiting for Jeremy to drive back to our house and get the presents.
What did we do?
Take pictures of each other (Hagen took the picture of Gran while she took a pic of him).

Johnson Christmas
We are lucky to be surrounding around so much family. Jeremy has huge families on both sides of his family tree ;-) So, December is full of celebration with different families. Last weekend was the Johnson Extended Family Christmas. I forgot my camera (hate when I do that!!). So, thankfully Nancy took some on her camera and emailed them to me. (Thanks, Nancy!)

Reindeer Cookies/Playdate
I uploaded these pictures in the wrong order, but I am too tired to move them... so bare with me :-)
We had a playdate the other day at Misty's house. She has triplets, Abigail, Katie, and James. We decided to play, have a light lunch, and make reindeer cookies.
Here are all the kids sitting around the table eating lunch. Notice Abigail or Katie (?) still has her lion costume on, ha ha ha.
Hagen: Did I hear you say cookie??
Here is one cookie (made by Misty) to show all the parents what the finished product should look something like.
Hagen showing me his cookie after he ate about 4 M&Ms. I would turn around to put the cup of M&Ms back on the counter and when I turned back around he would be missing an eye. I wanted him to have a completed reindeer for the picture.
Mason with his cookie.
Mason with his turn.

Hagen on my lap, Mason on Debbie's lap. Mason had fun with Ms. Debbie. She helped him label all the parts of the manger (over and over) and she helped him buckle his naked barbies into their jeep ;-)

Misty has one of these bouncy horses (whatever they are called) at her house. The boys LOVED it. We had several small temper tantrums when they had to take turns.

"How Preemie Moms Are Chosen" by Erma Bombeck
Did you ever wonder how the mothers of premature babies are chosen?
Somehow, I visualize God hovering Earth, selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation. As he observes, he instructs his angels to take notes in a giant ledger. "Armstrong, Beth, son. Patron Saint...give her Gerard. He's used to profanity." Finally, he passes a name to an angel and smiles.
"Give her a preemie."
The angel is curious. "Why this one God? She's so happy."
"Exactly," smiles God. "Could I give a premature baby a mother who knows no laughter? That would be cruel."
"But does she have the patience?" asks the angel.
"I don't want her to have too much patience, or she'll drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she'll handle it. I watched her today. She has that sense of self and independence so rare and so necessary in a mother. You see, the child I am going to give her has a world of it's own. She has to make it live in her world, and that's not going to be easy."
God smiles. "This one is perfect. She has just the right amount of selfishness. "
The angel gasps, "Selfishness! Is that a virtue?"
God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she will never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't know it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take for granted a spoken word. She will never consider a step ordinary. When her child says momma for the first time, she will be witness to a miracle and know it. I will permit her to see cleary the things that I see - ignorance, cruelty, prejudice - and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side."
"But what about her Patron Saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in the air.
God smiles.
"A mirror will suffice."
