Soccer Pictures

I need to get one of those expensive ‘big’ cameras that can capture action shots.  My phone camera just does not do the trick.  But for the time being… this is what I got.

I don’t know where Mason saw this… but when he is waiting for some action, he stands like this.

Mason’s Lung Doctor and Hagen’s Driving Lesson

Mason had a regular check up with his pulmonologist, Dr. H.  When he went, he had to do a lung function test… Dr. H said it was ‘Excellent!’  He still thinks Mason’s asthma is the type he will outgrow.

When he did his lung function test, some nursing students (from one of the schools where I teach – kind of neat) were there getting some clinicals in.  They asked Mason if he minded them watching while he did it.  An audience?  Of course not, My Mason always up for a show!!

While Mason was getting his check-up…. where were Hagen and Dad?  Ummm, let’s see?

golf

Yep, that would be golfing!  Jeremy went golfing with some friends, so Hagen got to tag along.  I found out Hagen actually drove the golf cart most of the time and once even when no one was in it.  He was SO EXCITED when he got home.  It didn’t matter what else he did, I don’t think he even remembers anything else he did that entire day – except – ‘I drove the golf cart all by myself, Momma!!’

Grandparent’s Day

This year our school had a Grandparents’ day when the Grandparents could come up, see the boys’ classrooms and eat lunch with them.

Gran was just as excited as the boys.

They went through the lunch line together and Hagen directed Gran on everything she was suppose to do, including what items she was suppose to get and not get.

First Responders at Church

Right around the 9/11 anniversary, our church invites the local first responders to a luncheon after church to recognize all their hard work for our community.

The big perk for the kids is the fire trucks, ambulances and police cars parked outside of the church.  The year Mason was at home doing this:

Soccer, First Game!

I thought for sure I posted about our first soccer game… someone must have come in and deleted it Winking smile

We’ve been just a little busy, but fear not!  I will make up for it in the next few posts.  Keep checking back because I will have several posts over the next few days… I plan to cram a lot in before October gets here – what? October!!!  CrAzY!!

Okay, first soccer game.  It is AH-Mazing how much better the boys have gotten since they first started playing!  Hagen has quite the kick on him.  Even coach jokes around with him, ‘Take care of that leg of yours, Hagen!’

During practice one day he told him to kick it hard and it went over ALL the players heads and landed in the other net on the other side of the field! Surprised smile

soccer

This year the soccer association is having skill nights once a week and thankfully it is being held at the park across the street – who could resist that?  We’ve already been to the first one and it was great!

Only picture I got from that game…. but I love Hagen’s intense face!!!  Go get ‘em boy Winking smile

Dr. P

The day I was sent to the hospital was during my high risk doctor appointment.  The only reason I was at the high risk doctor was because I was having twins.  We went for what we thought was a routine appointment that included an ultrasound.  During this ultrasound we learned two things.

1. One of Hagen’s kidneys was small.

2. I was already in labor and needed to be rushed to Labor and Delivery to get the labor stopped.

We learned #2 in about the same time frame as we learned #1, so we basically forgot all about it until our Neonatologist noticed it after Hagen was born.  About this same time, they noticed Mason had hydronephrosis.  We were then introduced to our Nephrologist, Dr. P.

Dr. P. has been with us from the very beginning.  He saw them all through our NICU stay and we continued to see him after we left the NICU.

Mason continued to get blood work and ultrasounds to make sure his hydronephrosis was completely gone and everything was ‘normal’.  Two years ago Mason graduated from yearly check ups to every two years.

This year he went through his blood work routine (ultrasound was last year) and we met with Dr. P the other day.  He pronounced Mason ‘normal’ and said he doesn’t have to see him for 3 more years.  He will be 8 years old.  8!  Wow.  So, upon hearing that… I had to get the boys to take their picture with Dr. P.

Ignore Hagen’s sour face and Mason caught mid-glance… but there he is.  One of our favorite doctors that makes sure the boys are doing great.

We still see him every 6 months to keep track of Hagen and his blood pressure.  And along those lines, he is doing great, too.  We found the right things to keep Hagen’s blood pressure in check and thankfully with close monitoring Hagen will continue to do awesome.

Funny…. Jeremy (always) asks about football and if the boys could play.  Here is the conversation that took place (and takes place during *almost* EVERY check-up)!

Jeremy: Can Hagen play football?

Dr. P: Well, with special pads that protect the kidney, I’m sure he would possibly be able to.

Jeremy: If he was your child, would you let him.

Dr. P: NO.

Jeremy: Would you let that one?  (Mason)

Dr. P: Sure!

Me to Dr. P.: UUGGHH!  Hey – wait a minute!

Dr. P to me: Oh yes, sorry we forgot to conference before hand about that!

Meet the Teacher and First Day of KiNdErGaRtEn!!

We were one of the only schools in our area that had Meet the Teacher the day before the first day of school and it was in the morning.  Since my campuses were starting that day, too… it made for a VERY busy couple of days and some serious juggling.

But we made it.

On the morning of Meet the Teacher, we got up early enough to get doughnuts.

I am such a preparer.  Any of the unknown or out of my hands stresses me out (I think I confirmed that after this week).  We planned to see Mason’s teacher first and then head to Hagen’s.  On the first day of school, we figured this same plan would work best because Hagen would probably want to see where Mason was going.

We saw Mason’s teacher first.  Mrs. D.

And Hagen was super excited to see his teacher… Hagen’s teacher, Mrs. M.

The next morning, we got up super early (again) to have our first day of school.  No more sleeping in for us… we know get up before the sun.  Hagen asked me one morning – is it still nighttime?  Nope, we just beat the sun getting up!

Breakfast before school.

The boys did great!  Better than I expected it to go.  I think both of the teachers are perfect fits for H and M.  I can’t believe my babies are in Kindergarten.  But they are and I couldn’t be more proud of them.

"How Preemie Moms Are Chosen" by Erma Bombeck

Did you ever wonder how the mothers of premature babies are chosen?
Somehow, I visualize God hovering Earth, selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation. As he observes, he instructs his angels to take notes in a giant ledger. "Armstrong, Beth, son. Patron Saint...give her Gerard. He's used to profanity." Finally, he passes a name to an angel and smiles.
"Give her a preemie."
The angel is curious. "Why this one God? She's so happy."
"Exactly," smiles God. "Could I give a premature baby a mother who knows no laughter? That would be cruel."
"But does she have the patience?" asks the angel.
"I don't want her to have too much patience, or she'll drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she'll handle it. I watched her today. She has that sense of self and independence so rare and so necessary in a mother. You see, the child I am going to give her has a world of it's own. She has to make it live in her world, and that's not going to be easy."
God smiles. "This one is perfect. She has just the right amount of selfishness. "
The angel gasps, "Selfishness! Is that a virtue?"
God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she will never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't know it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take for granted a spoken word. She will never consider a step ordinary. When her child says momma for the first time, she will be witness to a miracle and know it. I will permit her to see cleary the things that I see - ignorance, cruelty, prejudice - and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side."
"But what about her Patron Saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in the air.
God smiles.
"A mirror will suffice."
