We still leave our cookies for Santa outside on the back porch.

The morning of, the boys woke up to find letters.  Fred, our elf, created a scavenger hunt to find Santa’s gift.  They LOVED it! Smile

Christmas with Grammy and Grampa

Again, it seems I can never get pictures at Christmas because they are always running all over the place with their cousins (which is a good thing!).

Fred the Elf, Christmas 2013

Our elf, Fred, came back this year.  The boys had fun with him again.

Here are some of the highlights…

Last year, Fred replaced our stockings with our underwear.  This year he decided to hide all our underwear!  The boys thought this was hysterical.  Hagen was really confused – where did he put it??  We never found it!  He brought it back the next morning.

One morning the boys woke up with marker all over their faces and this note from Fred.  (I think he kind of out did himself on this one!)  I’m just glad he found the washable markers and not the permanent ones.

Always a Coach

Because of Jeremy’s work schedule, it is just too hard to coach the boys.  We really like their basketball coach this season – but the hardest part for Jeremy…

Watching the game as the dad and not coach!

IMG_5903

It looks like he is getting on to them or yelling at them.  But, he isn’t.  He just gives them lots of pointers and tips.

IMG_5905

Here is Mason getting his feedback report.

IMG_5907

Crack me up… Oh, sorry Mason, he wasn’t done with you yet.  Here is your next dose of feedback!

IMG_5912

I should have handed him a clipboard so he could draw out his plan.  You know, it does help to see the plan visually. Winking smile

Now it’s the coach’s turn.

Santa comes to visit….

One of Jeremy’s good friends has a dad that dresses up like Santa and comes to visit special friends.  It started with his grandchildren and now that they are older – he visits other kids, like us.  This year the boys were super excited when he showed up!!

IMG_5986IMG_5987IMG_5989

They had lots more questions than last year.  Santa did great answering them… it just made me wish I had gotten out the video camera.

Where are the reindeer?

How do you get down the chimney?

Are the reindeer with you now?

Where is Mrs. Claus?

I loved when Mason was going over his list, he had to go get his Lego instruction book (with the Lego products in the back).

Sweet boys with Santa!

IMG_6003

What? You have to go Santa?  Where?  Where are the reindeer?  Can we see them?  Where are they waiting?  Can anyone see them?

IMG_6005IMG_6007

IMG_6010IMG_6011

Okay, one more reason why I needed to have my video camera out.  As soon as the door was shut, Mason screams out, “HE’S A FAKE!!!!  I saw the strings on his beard!  That is NOT the real Santa!!!!”

Jeremy and I busted out laughing.  We SO could not help it!!  Then we said something like, are you sure?  Well, maybe he is like the mall Santa… he isn’t real, but Santa is so busy, he sends helpers for guys like you.  HA HA HA  ---- SO wish I had my video camera Sad smile  Oh well!

"How Preemie Moms Are Chosen" by Erma Bombeck

Did you ever wonder how the mothers of premature babies are chosen?
Somehow, I visualize God hovering Earth, selecting his instruments for propagation with great care and deliberation. As he observes, he instructs his angels to take notes in a giant ledger. "Armstrong, Beth, son. Patron Saint...give her Gerard. He's used to profanity." Finally, he passes a name to an angel and smiles.
"Give her a preemie."
The angel is curious. "Why this one God? She's so happy."
"Exactly," smiles God. "Could I give a premature baby a mother who knows no laughter? That would be cruel."
"But does she have the patience?" asks the angel.
"I don't want her to have too much patience, or she'll drown in a sea of self-pity and despair. Once the shock and resentment wear off, she'll handle it. I watched her today. She has that sense of self and independence so rare and so necessary in a mother. You see, the child I am going to give her has a world of it's own. She has to make it live in her world, and that's not going to be easy."
God smiles. "This one is perfect. She has just the right amount of selfishness. "
The angel gasps, "Selfishness! Is that a virtue?"
God nods. "If she can't separate herself from the child occasionally, she will never survive. Yes, here is a woman whom I will bless with a child less than perfect. She doesn't know it yet, but she is to be envied. She will never take for granted a spoken word. She will never consider a step ordinary. When her child says momma for the first time, she will be witness to a miracle and know it. I will permit her to see cleary the things that I see - ignorance, cruelty, prejudice - and allow her to rise above them. She will never be alone. I will be at her side every minute of every day of her life because she is doing my work as surely as she is here by my side."
"But what about her Patron Saint?" asks the angel, his pen poised in the air.
God smiles.
"A mirror will suffice."
